Jewellery Quarter Police Station to Close

318flypoliceYet again, for about the sixth time in 30 years, there is a proposal to close the Jewellery Quarter Vyse Street Police Station this time as part of a planned closure of 28 disused and derelict and under-used police stations within the WM Police Area. This will take place in March 2017 as a result of Government cuts.

This proposal includes stations ‘not open to the public’. Our station is too small to accommodate ‘visitors’ but there is one sergeant, three PCSOs and four PCs ‘posted’ there – plus the police cars parked outside which in itself is a deterrent. If you use the phone by the door, an officer will come and speak to you.

Support so far has been shown by Stella Leyton (Assay Master and Chairman of the JQDT) and BIDS are also strongly opposing the closure, also the Executive of Perry Beeches Schools.

Please add your voice by contacting Acting Chief Constable Michele Larmour and copy your email/letter to Sir Albert Bore, stressing the high value of goods associated with The Jewellery Quarter. No good just complaining to our local coppers – it is not their decision!
