St Paul’s Club Still Going Strong but no Longer in St Pauls Square

‘By way of introduction my name is Dan Norman and I am the President of St Paul’s Club. One of my members brought to my attention an edition of the Hockley Flyer from March this year, that I have some splendid news on.

It was with greatest regret that St Paul’s Club is no longer on St Paul’s Square, but I can assure you we are still very much operational and growing in Members. We have relocated to Edgbaston Hall, a Club within a Club if you will, at Edgbaston Golf Club.

Unfortunately, ‘Number 34’ which had served us so well (since 1894!) was no longer ideal for the requirements of a modern Members environment without major alteration and subsequent disruption to the existing facilities and the comfort of our patrons.

It was with heavy heart and fond memories that we left the Square, however the relocation to Edgbaston has its own benefits. We are growing into our new surroundings and able to focus on the community that the Club is renowned for.

We were very happy to facilitate a sale to a long-term Birmingham based firm of solicitors, that I believe will (pending planning) be able to use the property as a stunning City Centre office. This will bring additional commercial activity to the thriving area of the Jewellery Quarter and we are very pleased that the building is evolving in this manner.

While bittersweet, the Jewellery Quarter will be missed as we set about our future in Edgbaston’.

The Hockley Flyer magazine if entirely funded by the advertising, but we could always do with a little bit more funding. The advertising not only pays for the design/printing, but also postage, delivery, all the associated paperwork/accounts, and research for the Heritage section. Our subscribers pay only a bit more then the postage/mailing costs, and the magazines are free - no cover price.
